Paint and Coating Engineer
About the Role
On behalf of an established international manufacturer of high-performance composite safety equipment, we are seeking a skilled Paint and Coating Engineer to join their modern manufacturing facility in Rayong.
In this role, you will lead the technical bridge between chemical formulation, surface preparation, automated application, and quality finishing across advanced composite materials.
Key Responsibilities
- Process Optimization: Configure and maintain industrial spray systems (pneumatic, HVLP, and automated lines) and thermal curing ovens to ensure uniform thickness and high-end cosmetic finishes.
- Surface Preparation: Standardize composite preparation protocols (degreasing, sanding, priming, defect rectification) on molded carbon-fiber and fiberglass substrates.
- Color & Formulation Management: Partner with chemical suppliers to develop and adjust coating systems, utilizing spectrophotometers and gloss meters to maintain tight color tolerances ($\Delta E$).
- Defect Troubleshooting: Use Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Statistical Process Control (SPC) to resolve finish defects (e.g., orange peel, pinholes, blistering) and boost first-pass yield.
- EHS & Quality Compliance: Enforce ISO 9001 standards and strict EHS protocols, including VOC emissions control and hazardous waste management in spray booths and mixing areas.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: 3–7+ years of hands-on industrial coating, spray application, and surface finishing experience.
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of industrial paint chemistry (polyurethanes, epoxies, acrylics, waterborne/solvent-borne) and composite finishing processes.
- Quality & Metrology: Proven track record troubleshooting paint lines using SPC, film thickness gauges, and spectrophotometers.
- Standards: Solid understanding of ISO 9001 quality systems and EHS/VOC regulations.
- Location: Able to work on-site in Rayong Province.
